In Windows 7 there are many unwanted services .Many of these services are not meant for a normal home PC user . You can disable these settings , as per your requirements

1. Application Experience
2. Computer Browser
3. Error Reporting Service
4. Desktop Window Manager Session Manager
5. Diagnostic Policy Service
6. IP Helper
7. Offline Files
8. Portable Device Enumerator Service
9. Print Spooler
10.Distributed Link Tracking Client
11. Protected Storage
12.Secondary Logon
13. Server (If your computer do not connect with any network)
14. Tablet PC Input Service

18. Windows Search
19.Remote Registry
20. Windows Time
21. Windows security center
22. Windows updates
23. Windows firewall(Provided you have a security software installed)

To disable these Windows 7 services , press Win+R and enter “msconfig ” with out quotes . Now select services from tabs . There would be other services that are not included here . Like that those created by Office , Nero and other softwares . Speed of your Windows 7 desktop will increase dramatically after disabling these services . But care should be taken while choosing the correct service .Else it would bring out the reverse effect .

A Windows XP shutdown icon on your desktop

A Windows XP shutdown icon on your desktop
Right-click an empty space on your desktop
Select the option "new shortcut"
Type "shutdown -s -t 0" (Exactly as shown here, but without the quotes. The last character in the command is a zero.)
Click next
Type a name for the shortcut (e.g. Fast shutdown) and click finish
Now you have a new icon on your desktop. Let's customize it some more.

Right-click the new icon and select properties.
In the dialog box that opens up, click change icon.
You may see a warning message that shutdown.exe contains no icons, just click ok if you see this
Choose a new icon
You are now ready to test your new Windows XP shutdown button. Make sure to close all applications and double-click your new icon to shutdown your computer.

Once the shutdown mechanism is started, there is only one way to stop your machine from going down. That's what the next part is all about.

working with files

Working with Files
• To rename several files at once, select all of them in any folder view, or in the Windows Explorer, rename the FIRST one in the list, and the rest will follow.

• To turn off filenames, hold down the Shift key when you click to open a folder in Windows Explorer or when you switch into thumbnail view. This will turn of the file names, giving more space for the thumbnails. Doing it again turns them back on.

• Try grouping your files. In the top menu bar select View – Arrange icons by… - Type, and then View – Arrange icons by… - Show in groups.

You can change the size and quality of the shell's thumbnails. Start regedit, expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER (only for you) or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (for all the users in this computer) and in Software – Microsoft – Windows – CurrentVersion – Explorer, add or modify the following entries:

• ThumbnailSize – Double Word, decimal value between 32 and 256

• ThumbnailQuality – Double Word, decimal value between 50 and 100
